Texas Rocks and Minerals Field Guide

I really love this book. I enjoy that it is sturdy due to the thickness of the pages. The fact that rocks, minerals, and crystals are in alphabetical order. The book is small enough to carry around and if it gets dirty, it’s easy enough to wipe down.

My first thought was it’s small book but after I opened the book I was blown away loved everything about it is very informative and very interesting . Loved that it tells you the type of minerals they are what they look like what to look for and even where to find this rocks and minerals then I thought about the size it’s perfect to take with you when you are rock hunting.

This informative guide will help to identify rocks and minerals either in the shop or the field. All of the major characteristics for over 120 Texas rocks and minerals, including photos, are listed including common locations to find them. I plan to use my new guide to target specific specimens by region to better plan future trips.Here in west Texas, there are many remote places without cell coverage. This field guide just plugged that hole which is why I am leaving it in my truck as my go to reference. And it’s laminated too!Well done, rockchasing.com!

The pages, unlike many books, are encased in plastic for durability in the field, not paper. The photographs of rocks, along with information about the rocks, and locations in Texas where specific rocks may be located, can’t be beat!

This guide is. hands' down, the best book for Texas rockhounds. It’s durable, lightweight, and easy to take into the field because it has thickly laminated spiral pound format—handy size, not too bulky, but fabulous photos. I personally really liked the introductory section. I wish I had that information when I first started in rock hounding.The waterproof pages hold up perfectly to heat, dust, and rain. I know because my grandson tried the book out and his sister decided to spray him with a hose and it was only then that he realized the book was fine (he needed some new clothes though).I was able to review the book as soon as I got it, but I waited to write this review until both grandchildren got to take a look. They are 9 and 7. They both though this was the best book I have shared with them.Ideal for both beginners and collectors who want reliable Texas-specific info in a format made for real use. I happen to think it is very cool that it can be used by 3 generations in my family.
