New England Rocks & Minerals Field Guide

What an awesome little field guide! The construction is great. The lamenated pages make it so I can throw it in my bucket or backpack and not worry. The color photos make it easy to identify what mineral you're looking at. It even has suggested spots to start searching for the minerals.

Immediately I noticed the high-quality construction of this guide is. To be able to take the book out into the field is invaluable. It can be used in the rain or snowy conditions without being ruined. Also, the color photos jumped out at me. A dry erase marker can be used on the pages to circle stones or write notes and then easily be erased.The breakdown of each stone is informative. I never knew there was actually a technique called “streak” where rubbing the stone onto a tile helps identify what the rock may be.Although I’ve been collecting rocks for many years, I guess there’s a lot more for me to learn, and this book is perfect for a curious rock hound such as myself living in New England.I would love to see a pronunciation guide included with the book. Perhaps with each mineral and stone there could be a pronunciation right next to the chemical breakdown of each rockMy favorite part of the book is the colorful pictures. A perfect guide when out in the field. I also like the quality of the entire product. Each rock description also has suggestions of where that particular rock can be found.The book covers over 200 different rocks and minerals and I highly recommend it if you are a rock-hound, whether a newbie or a season professional.Also, I’d like to note that there are books specifically written for Texas, California and one that’s generalized for the entire United States.

This guide is all you need for basic identification of localized rocks and minerals. Great photos and descriptions of basic locations. Fully laminated pages for use in all conditions and spiral bound.

This is a great little field guide specifically for the New England area. It has many rocks and minerals, listing each alphabetically with their different classifications, color pictures, and easy to understand characteristics to help identify them. AND it is spiral bound and has laminated pages. Clearly, it will stand up to years of use both at home and in the field. All in all a great little resource!

What a beautiful presentation! The book is very sturdy, and will stand up to pretty much anything when you look for your crystals. The pictures are clear, and you will know exactly where to search. I’m looking forward to another book for my area.
