Another great book !!! I love these. They are wonderful, spiral bound and waterproof. Great info on how to identify rocks and minerals. I hope to keep adding to my collection. My wife is retiring soon and we will be traveling. I am a rock hound and these books will go with us in the motorhome.Seriously, these are the best rock books I have had in 50 years of rock hounding.

This field guide is very thorough in it's information and organization of rocks and minerals found in North and South Carolina. There is so much in this book! Every rock and mineral is described with color, scientific composition and a photo that shows the rock in it's original state and then after it has been cut and polished. The beginning of the book tells you how to use the book and gives you systems to identify hardness, location, rarity and more. Each page is laminated, making this book durable to use out in the field. I visit North and South Carolina once every year and never knew how many gems and minerals each state had. This guide has educated me on how rich our land is and encourages people to learn more about the Carolina's Geology. Five stars for me!

I have seen videos on social media where people rockhound and actually find huge gemstones just sitting there on the bank of a river or in a stream. How exciting would that be!Well, with this book, you can explore the Carolinas and identify the rocks you find. You never know what you might uncover. This book has a great number of rocks and minerals listed as well as a legend and info about luster, hardness, and even where to find some rocks and minerals. I was in SC earlier this month and wish I had that book, but unfortunately, it arrived after I left. I guess that means I have to make another trip!

This thick laminated (waterproof) spiral-bound field guide is perfect for delving off the highway and into the depths in search of the perfect rock (or mineral). It shows 119 minerals and 17 rocks (one of which, Petrified Wood, is a fossil). For beginners or experienced rock hunters, it categorizes rocks and minerals by type, color, crystal systems, fluorescence, hardness, location in the state (with more information on the Rock Chasing website), luster, magnetism, rarity, streak, transparency, and trivia (e.g., Beraunite “Starts out green but turns red when exposed to air.”). The locations give you starting points for your hunts. Finding rocks is a massive game of Hide-and-Seek, where you seek and identify specific rocks. These books make it easier to find the ones you are looking for.

This brings my total of rock books to eight now and I am prepared for any rock hounding trip to North and South Carolina, Indiana, Ohio, Illinois, New York, Florida, Texas or California and just the good old USA in general. Sincerely happy with the Rocks and Minerals Field guides we own. This is our 5th state field guide and we look forward to continuing the collection. Heavy, thick laminated sheets with glossy, brightly colored, clear photos and bold print for ease of reading. The laminated pages when out on your adventure are highly beneficial between humidity and dirt, dropping in mud, all the things I have done with other items while hiking or rockhounding. The pages stay nice and flat, wipe clean as needed, and protect the vibrant photos of the rocks and minerals.Simple definitions, clear notation of where you might be able to find the rocks or minerals, and an educational aspect for all ages.

This is such a great field book, really amazing quality - the pages are heavily laminated making it super durable and protecting the book from water, dirt, etc. It would be hard to damage any of the book considering how thick and sturdy it’s made. I honestly think it would be fine to rinse this book off in the sink because everything is sealed, you would just need to go through and wipe it down good afterward. The information included on the different minerals is also fairly comprehensive when it comes to identification in the field - this isn’t a particularly long book due to how thick the pages are, but the information provided is very helpful with accurate color photos. This would also make a great gift for someone who has just started having an interest in rocks and rock hounding - particularly if they live in North or South Carolina. Great book and a good price considering the quality.
